Since 2021, World Talents has already attracted €2.8 million and now plans to raise an additional €2 million to foster collaborations between entrepreneurs and universities.
The World Talents platform, which works on talent mobility initiatives in collaboration with universities, expects to attract two million euros in the coming years, after having already raised €2.8 million since 2021.
According to Bernardo Saraiva, co-founder and director of World Talents, speaking to Lusa, the goal is “to attract at least two million euros in the coming years for research and development, fostering active collaborations between international entrepreneurs and universities.”
He noted that “this estimate does not include substantial, direct, and additional investments expected for early-stage startups, which will further drive innovation and economic growth.”
Founded in 2021 and based in Portugal, World Talents works “on talent mobility initiatives within the university ecosystem,” the platform stated in a press release.
The organisation has already established partnerships with the University of Coimbra, University of Algarve, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, among others. “Through its Global Talent Portugal program, World Talents has attracted around 80 entrepreneurs and companies to the country, with a total investment of approximately €2.8 million.”
According to Bernardo Saraiva, the initiative has drawn “entrepreneurs and projects from industries such as artificial intelligence, software development, renewable energy, and biotechnology,” and has also attracted “startups focused on sustainable development and digital solutions for traditional industries.”
“We bridge the gap between entrepreneurs and highly qualified individuals with university ecosystems,” he explained, adding that the partnerships involve “not only direct investment in research and development in universities and incubators but also a highly impactful knowledge transfer component, which has been invaluable for universities.”
He highlighted the example of “an Indian entrepreneur with vast experience in founding and managing software companies, who played a key role as a mentor at the University of Algarve” and “directly supported local startups in their projects, sharing expert knowledge and helping them grow.”
The platform also mentioned another example: “an American entrepreneur currently managing a Nasdaq-listed company valued at approximately $700 million,” as well as “a Japanese entrepreneur who has been working to promote academic exchange between Japan and Portugal.”
World Talents has now signed a partnership with the University of Évora through the Global Talent Portugal program.
